Business Plans: Keynote Presentations

June 23, 2008 – 10:52 am
Though the Windows-operated PC is still the dominant personal computer on the market, Apples Mac has a strong following. Mac users are often highly devoted to Apple and defend it as if their Macs were part of their families. For whatever reasons individuals have for preferring their Macs, it is a common judgement that the Mac is better at handling, manipulating, and viewing multimedia files and graphics. The Macs superb handling of multimedia makes it a sure platform for developing presentations. In the last several years, business presentations have gotten to be quite complex. Slide shows are no longer merely pie charts, bullet lists, and bar graphs. As often as not, now, slide shows will include video clips, 3D animations, and talking avatars. Some in the business world have lamented this turn of events, saying that presentations are becoming more about entertainment than business. As long ...

Business Plans: Conference Room Equipment

June 22, 2008 – 10:52 am
Conference room equipment has gotten much more complicated than in years past, when an easel and a whiteboard were all the necessary equipment. Easels and poster boards have now been replaced by the digital projector, which can project the contents of the connected computer onto a screen or a wall. Even the whiteboard has the capacity for high technology. With some software and some digital interface equipment, the contents of a whiteboard can be captured and stored or e-mailed for later perusal. Many conference rooms are now hard-wired for the digital world, with wireless networks and ports to accommodate a host of laptop computers and peripheral equipment. The advent of video-conferencing has given people the ability to attend meetings from hundreds and thousands of miles away. PowerPoint presentations can be sent around the globe while they happen. This is one of the major reasons that ...

Business Plans: Long Range Mouse

June 21, 2008 – 10:52 am
The long range mouse has been around since the 1980s--although, back then, the range was only a couple of feet further than with a corded mouse. Modern long range mice can operate from across a room, which makes them very handy for use in presentations. There are even mice that do not require their being on a flat surface in order to operate. These mice usually operate with radio waves and are capable of interpreting gestures which correspond to certain commands. Most older mice operated with a ball that rolled along the surface of a mousepad and translated the motion into motion for the on-screen cursor. Then came the optical mice which had no balls whatsoever. Instead, these mice use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to scan the surfaces on which they are placed to determine movements and translate them to the cursors. The latest innovation replaces ...

(Presenters are made more often than they are born, so novices take heart.) Presenting is a skill just like any other and it needs to be polished and practiced to keep it in good form. So whether you are a novice or a pro, there are tutorials, workshops, and publications that speak to your skill level.Presenting is a matter of preparation, organization, and confidence. If you prepare your material and yourself exhaustively, you will have no problem knowing what to say. This means researching your topic (especially if it is not in a field with which you are intimately familiar) and researching your audience (knowing to whom you will be speaking allows you to ...

Business Plans: Etraining

June 19, 2008 – 10:52 am
E-training is a reflection of the modern climate in the corporate world. More is being done with fewer people and the slack is being picked up by technology. Training new employees was never the favorite job of management but it was a necessary evil if they wanted people to do things the way the company wanted them done. Now, though, technology allows for extensive training with fewer people needed to do the training.Large corporations can send trainees through a cycle of video introductions and PowerPoint presentations to get them up to speed and familiarize them with the corporate environment. It is almost entirely possible to train a new employee without having to dedicate any human resources to the task. This will probably never be the case, however, because human interaction is still the best way to learn--at least until corporations get working, roaming holograms. With the ...
